1970s

PILIBOS AND THE 70s

In 1969, Armenian Day School of Hollywood (Our original name!) is established with 22 students in K-2nd grades and 3 teachers. In 1972, the school is renamed to Alex Pilibos Armenian School. In 1977 the school is renamed to Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School. In 1978, the first middle school students graduate with 24 students, and in 1979, Pilibos adds its first high school class. By the end of the 70’s, Pilibos has about 510 students and 34 faculty and staff.

1980s

PILIBOS AND THE 80s

In 1981, the Apcarian building is constructed to allow for 24 new classrooms that include an art studio, library, typing classroom, and science lab. In 1981, 24 students from the first senior class graduate from Pilibos. The highest enrollment number in the 80’s was in 1985 with 790 students and a faculty and staff of 45. In 1989 the Soghanalian Hall is constructed to accommodate our growing Pre-Kindergarten program.

1990s

PILIBOS AND THE 90s

In the 90’s, honors classes are added to the curriculum. Clubs, such as Environmental and Debate are established. Students begin to participate in academic competitions like the Academic Decathlon and Mock Trial. In the mid-90’s the first 8th grade class embarks on the D.C. class trip. Hye Tahd is added to the High School curriculum, offering an opportunity for Pilibos scholars to delve into current Armenian issues, studies, and politics. By the end of the 90’s, Pilibos has 633 students and 49 faculty and staff.

2000s

PILIBOS AND THE 00s

In the 2000’s, AP Classes are added to the curriculum. More and more clubs and organizations are established in which students participate. The class of 2000 is the first class to embark on their class pilgrimage to Our Homeland, Armenia! The long awaited and much needed Daglian Arc Library and the Tashjian Gymnasium are constructed to meet the needs of its 582 students and 87 faculty and staff.

2010s

PILIBOS AND THE 10s

In the 2010s, two bungalows are added, the science and technology labs are revamped, and a number of classrooms are renovated. In 2012, more class trips and retreats are added to our experiential learning program for middle and high school. In 2018, a TK class is added on our campus and for the first time in our history a Head of School position is integrated into our leadership. Pilibos Scholars find their own voice through their explorations and participation in over 20 clubs and student organizations, 14 AP and 9 Honors classes, and over 120 hours of volunteering opportunities. Pilibos Scholars apply and are accepted to universities across the nation, including Ivy Leagues. Today, Pilibos has 858 students and over 120 faculty and staff.
